M.S. / Ph.D. Qualifying Examination Rules (Effective January 2007) |
| MS-Exam |
| 1. Each student is allowed at most 3 chances to take the exam. |
| 2. A student has to take all six courses (Stat 5585, 5685, 5505, 5605, 5725 and 5515) or equivalent (approved by the Director of Graduate Studies). |
| 3. The M.S. Plan of Study has to be submitted before the first exam sign-up date. |
| 4. If the first attempt results in a failure, subsequent attempts for passing the exam must be made within two years. |

| PhD-Exam: |
| A student is allowed at most two trials on the Ph.D. qualifying exam. |

Exam in Fall: Monday immediately preceding the first day of Fall classes
Sign-up Deadline: 2nd Monday in April of the same year |

Exam in Spring: Monday immediately preceding the first day of Spring classes
Sign-up Deadline: 2nd Monday in November of the preceding year |

Masters and Ph.D. Qualifying Examination: An Important Change |
Effective immediately (next round of this examination on Monday, August 18th, 2008), the examination schedule will be as follows:
AM Part: 9:00 AM - 12:00 Noon
PM Part: 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
This schedule will continue until further notice.
Apart from these explicit changes in the starting time and ending time, absolutely nothing else with regard to the Masters and Ph.D. Qualifying Examination changes.
